The Art Deco period

Often, designs from 1900 to the late 1950's are referred to as Art Deco. However, the period ran from 1920 to 1939, between the two World Wars.

It is an elegant style, popular in furniture design, interior decoration, architecture, decorative art, fashion, jewellery and textiles. Art Deco followed the Art Nouveau period, which ended with the Great War. Art Deco furniture had simpler, cleaner lines that were better suited to the rapidly-evolving mass production techniques.
